Rules for Running 4: Cheer up, Butter cup!

Don't be so hard on yourself, my running friends.

You're ALL awesome and when you're out there- no matter how fast you go, how far you go, YOU ARE ALL IMPORTANT. Please trust me on this, mmkay? I know, and I will explain later how I know. Just wait.

Have a positive attitude towards yourself and always know that running is all mind. Be proud of how far you've came and the progress you've made.

If you can't get into the positivie attitude and being your own biggest supporter and understander, then running isn't the sport for you.

And HERE is how I know why- Because there WILL be days where you can't get a run in because you're sick and you bet your bottom there WILL be days when you're too busy for a run. There are going to be days when you feel like you can't put one foot in front of the other and even make it for a mile or even a lap around the track. That's okay! There WILL be days when you are so sore you can't crank out your "scheduled" 5 mile tempo run and there will be days when you feel so fast but when you look down to your watch or treadmill and you really aren't going that fast. And the hardest of all, there will be races that disappoint you and leave you up late wondering what happened and what MORE you could of done right. And for me recently, I've had to miss state because of a dumb stupid injury and I had to be run-less for 2 months. Because when I had those bad days as I mentioned before in this paragraph, I'd try to make up for it by running extra the next day. This was outside of track practices too, I'd run in the morning before track and sometimes after track. This is hard to admit because I know how dumb it is now.

I know now that those days mean something more- that my body needs rest and time to get good. Those days are bound to happen and next time when it does, and your legs really can't take no more stop and do not even let your pretty little head think about how bad you've done, but of how far you've come and how much you'll come back tomorrow and kick your next run in the a#*!

What are YOU going to do to be more positive about yourself?

Random Thoughts

My List of Rambinglings:

1. Last night, with NINE babysitting kids, I played ghost in the graveyard and it could of been the COOLEST and FUNNEST time ever. Plus on top of that, it was a good form of exsersise and I got my speed workout in by having to whip out my sprinting skills when 10 year old kids who have been snacking on fruit roll ups, drinking pops, and gatorade and I don't know what else. They were FULL of sugar and ready to go but it was so fun that way!

2. We need food in this household. I buy my own groceries because I eat way differently than my family, so it's serious. Grocery shopping today is a must.

3. I was reading Kara Goucher's interview on Runner's World. For one, I cannot believe she can train and run 110 miles/week without one source of injury. I mean elites are cut out for it and they have gotten used to it...but I just can't imagine! What is her nutrition plan? I've always wondered that about runners- do they eat super, super healthy or what? For two, I love something she said in there as well:

"That's been a change in me from high school until now. Of course, I was always competitive and wanted it. But I used to be afraid to say my goals out loud, and I didn't want a lot of attention. And as I've grown, I've gotten over the negative people and the negative comments. I risk so much to do this, and it's awesome and I love it and I wouldn't have it any other way. But when people are at work and they're nervous about a presentation, that's how I feel all the time. I'm going to practice and I need it to go well and I'm so invested in it, emotionally and physically." -Kara Goucher
I love this quote! I am afraid to say my goals out loud too, and I know I shouldn't even think about it like that, but I'm so scared people are going to think I'm crazy or weird. I just need to get over the negative people who say things to me and keep working it and putting my heart into it.

 4. Have you ever tried a blueberry ego waffle with peanut butter on it? Do it. It's so good!

5. August 5 at 11 am is the OLYMPIC MARATHON and I figured out it's on a Sunday I couldn't be more happier. It's also a day after my 10K so I can just sit back and be on the couch all day watching more running. Love it. August 3-12 TONS of running stuff will be on. Click here to view the whole Olympic schedule!

6. It's so hot here it's blazing. At least it is cloudy right now.

7. My workout today will be running speed stuff for a total of 3 miles. And then I'll be doing sprints to get to my race pace. I can do it! Oh yeah, and I really should do Jullian Micheal's DVD. :)

Running Rule #3: Be prepared to challenge yourself.

This morning I got a quality tempo run in and that was 3 miles @ 7:30 mile pace, 7:00 mile pace, and then I bumped it down for the last mile at 6:19 pace. You know, I am a very 100 percent girl (that makes NO sense) but I can stay at one pace for ever on end but after my injury I have been itching to get FASTER. And having two months off my speed isn't quite in the best condition, but now it's starting to get back up there and today was one of those runs that made me SO HAPPY that I DID IT!

And that is something I always think about to myself as a runner. It is always easier to go out and run SLOW and LONG. I love that. I love going on long runs because it relaxes me but it really doesn't challenge me all that much. BUT---when I'm on a 3 mile hard tempo and I'm done with my lungs burning I know it challenges my body and that is where change happens girls!! So I do believe that is Running Rule #3: Be prepared to challenge yourself.

In the above picture I wasn't challenging myself really. I was warming up to race. But still. :)

You know what I have ALL of my heart set on right now:

A 16GB Iphone 4. Please Mom?

Have you ever wondered what your blogger's voice sound like? Do you imagine their voice when you're reading their blogs?
-This may be sort of a creepish question! SORRY! But, I totally do!! And my voice is high and I talk very fast. So if you guessed right, go give yourself a....cookie!

Please don't tell me you have an Iphone too. I'm jealous. :) Just kidding-tell me everything about it!!!!
-But once again, don't make me too jealous. Ha.

What was your favorite thing you ate today?
-I'd say the noodles I made for my babysitting kids today. Noodles/pasta are AMAZING at any rate!

ENTERTAINMENT on your next run!!

I'm actually completely relaxed right now. I didn't have to babysit today (got the day off which is always nice!) and I've done nothing. I mean seriously, NOTHING. That is a nice feeling.

Ok, I did do SOMETHING but it involved just sitting on my butt downloading music for my runs FREE but LEGALLY!!! I found how to on Pinterest and got created and created this tutorial in case you guys were interested:

I was really super excited a found a way! Itunes is SO expensive :(

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am going to get my run in a little bit, it clearly has been one of those catch up days though. I keep saying I am going to get up and do something productive but it just hasn't worked. But once I do get my run on (which is going to be 1 mile warm-up, 5 mile tempo, and 1 mile cool-down) and my other workout on---Jullian Micheal's DVD, I will be feeling awesome and way better. Tomorrow I have 13 miles on my training plan-whew! I'm on a training plan from Runner's World for a 10K that's coming up in August!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And besides listening to music I have another entertainment tip for you! Are you a treadmill runner? I am. I am probably the 2 percent of the population that likes running on a treadmill.
But I have a technique!!!! If you are getting bored, look down at the time. Your treadmill will display the distance your going every amount of seconds. The one I run at at the gym shows the distance every FIVE seconds. So I'll look down and when it's just about to the distance to show, I look up and count to six so I don't look at the distance and I keep doing that for awhile and I'll surprise myself how far I've come! It makes me focus on something else and keeps me motivated to keep going!

Are you on a training plan right now?

Favorite Running song right now?
I am in love with "Dark Side" by Kelly Clarkson. She keeps making awesome music!

HAPPY FRIDAY! TGIF! What are you doing this weekend?
Running, eating, and sleeping :) The top three things in my life when I'm getting back to training!

How do you keep yourself entertained on a long run? (Need answers please)
I have to just book down and do it. I like to dance while I'm running, if you need to know how to do that, you just got to get into the groove I guess. Listening to music is a must, but only for the first miles. If I'm on a treadmill I do the one technique I told you about above or I try to find something to do. But when I'm running, I can never think about anything else besides running. And this was a very long answer! OH: And I bring food with me, not necesarly because I need to refuel but it gives me something to look forward too. Gummi Sharks are amazing.
